Kinja'd!!!

CBD oil is no longer working for my pup. He had three seizures today, one that had him tumble down the stairs in the house. He was uninjured from the fall, but they’re doing something in there to check out his brain.

Of course, I’m not allowed to go in, so they came out and picked him up from the car. He was a sad pupper going in without me.

Hope they can help! If it’s canine epilepsy, I can confirm from experience that phenobarbita l works wonders (like, no seizures ever again) but it takes some time for their brain chemistry to adjust. My parents’ e pileptic dog lived like 9 happy doped-up years and had a seizure like once in that time after the initial adjustment period, when she was sick for a couple days and couldn’t keep her medicine down.

Thanks, I think he’ll be ok, my wife and son are a wreck.

We are in mandatory stay at home, but the list of essential businesses is so long as to render the order useless.

We’re definitely on to the medication route now. I guess to get the dosage right, they’ll be keeping him overnight to adjust everything. I wasn’t expecting that.

Us too! It should be fairly easy to control, I hope. My wife didn’t want to go with traditional medicine, but after today, she’s fully on board. I think.

I have some decent knowledge of Epilepsy. If diagnosed as such, there’s a few AED’s on the market.

Levetiracetam is one of, if not the most, effective generic drugs for humans with E pilepsy . And I believe it has canine applications.

Vimpat (lacosamide) is not generic, so it may be out of reach for a canine application. It is like levetiracetam but it doesn’t have some of the moody side effects associated with the generic.

Levetiracetam is  the one the vet mentioned today, actually.

It is a very very popular and effective drug for people with Epilepsy. Available in everything from an IV to a tablet. All levels of dosing. There is even an oral solution available if your pup finds and spit s out tablets too easily (that’s what our dog does with her allergy pills - can’t hide those things from her at all).

Keppra is the original name brand and that same name brand is also sold as a generic repack through Walgreens I believe. But I think any of the generics of it are comparable.

Thank you very much for the info. I’m hopeful we’ll get his seizures under control and improve his, and our, quality of life!

Having to go into a strange building with strange humans who are poking and prodding him and injecting him and hooking sensors to him must be an absolutely traumatic experience for your poor pupper. My heart aches just thinking about the terror he must be experiencing.

I completely agree. I sat in my vehicle in the parking lot for a good long while before I could leave.

I took our cat in for an exam, and they did the same thing. Poor little guy.

I’m hopeful it will help, but I’m sad he had to stay overnight. Miss the little dude.
